This article analyzes the theoretical foundations of comparative and contrastive linguistics, their differences and common aspects, and their significance for linguistic research. While comparative linguistics seeks to identify genealogical and typological similarities between different languages, contrastive linguistics studies their structural and functional aspects through comparison. The article highlights the scientific and epistemological foundations of these approaches and their place in modern linguistics.
