This article analyzes the methods used in the process of teaching mathematics in primary grades, their content and didactic capabilities. The classification of methods according to the source of knowledge, the nature of student activity and the purpose of the lesson is covered on a scientific and pedagogical basis. Also, the role of the methods of explanation, conversation, demonstration, practical exercises, problem-based learning and game technologies in the development of mathematical thinking in primary school students is revealed. According to the results of the study, it is proved that the correct selection of methods and their combined use increase the effectiveness of education, develop student activity and independent thinking.
